Court Upholds Verdict for Minister’s Wife’s Firm
The Court of Appeal yesterday upheld a verdict by Kompong Chhang Provincial Court over a land dispute in Konmpong Tralach district between a 70-year old woman and a company owned by the wife of the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy over a 3,000-square-meter parcel of land. In May 2012, the Kompong Chhang Provincial Court ordered Chat Batt, a farmer in Kompong Tralach’s Ta Ches commune, to pay $2,500 in compensation to KCD, a development owned by Chea Kheng, the wife of Suy Sem. … The compensation Ms. Batt was ordered to pay [has] been reduced to $1,250. … Ms. Batt previously testified to living on the land for more than 30 years and therefore claimed to have legal ownership of it. …
